A Federal Judge Allowed Trump to Continue Ramming Through His Mail Ballot Rules, For Now

On Wednesday, a federal judge lifted the final block on Trump’s anti-voting mail ballot rules. Although the same judge ruled earlier that the Postal Service violated her injunction by finalizing the rules, the ruling comes after the Supreme Court handed Trump a narrow, procedural win in a separate lawsuit by 23 states and Washington D.C. against the same anti-voter executive order, prompting Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson to warn in dissent that the decision will inject chaos into the midterms. The states have already filed a new lawsuit seeking to block Trump’s anti-voting order. It all comes against the backdrop of Trump quietly stacking the Postal Service’s board with his nominees, three of whom won’t even admit that Joe Biden won the 2020 election. Trump is doing everything he can to eliminate the safeguards standing between him and Americans’ mail ballots.

Trump Is Holding Police Funding Hostage to Force Cities to Rewrite Election Rules

The Trump administration is threatening to strip cities and counties of police and anti-terrorism funding unless they rewrite their election rules to match Trump’s demands. Harris County (Houston), Texas joined Columbus, Nashville, and El Paso County in suing the Department of Homeland Security over conditions that include paper ballots, proof-of-citizenship checks, and hand-counting five percent of ballots, with El Paso estimating the paper ballot switch alone would cost them $3 million. The entire effort is a brazen attempt to defund public safety to bully officials into rigging elections for Trump.
