Democrats Prepare for Troops at the Polls
NOTUS: Senate Democrats are running tabletop drills for armed federal agents showing up at polling places. Trump hasn't ruled out sending troops or ICE to the polls. “If you tell me that a ton of ICE agents are going to be surrounding polls… 100% that's intimidating,” said Sen. Elissa Slotkin, who compared the scenario to Hungary. A separate DNC lawsuit forces DHS, DOJ and the Pentagon to start handing over any deployment records today.
FBI Now Tracking Voters' IP Addresses
Axios: The FBI pulled a South Carolina voter's IP address after they registered online. “It's not typical for the FBI to be calling state election officials and just asking and conducting a fishing expedition to see private voter data,” a former senior DOJ official said. “It's not typical and it's not appropriate.”
Three States Tell DHS: Show Your Work
NBC News: California, Pennsylvania and Nevada have all demanded DHS explain its noncitizen voter numbers. None have gotten an answer. “I don't believe the federal government is being honest with the American people,” said Nevada's Cisco Aguilar. Pennsylvania's Al Schmidt — a Republican — noted the underlying database has already been ruled unlawful by a federal judge.
What Experts Are Saying
Retired Maj. Gen. Steven Lepper, Former Judge Advocates General Working Group: On how Congress's inaction on elections leaves military commanders an impossible choice: “The unwillingness of Congress to do its job has now placed the burden on military members, on military commanders, to have to either stand up to the president and refuse to obey unlawful orders, or obey unlawful orders and essentially put our military in a position where they're committing crimes. It's just a shameful situation for our military to be put in.” (NOTUS)
